Jackett wants Portsmouth up to speed on Fratton return

Kenny Jackett has demanded Pompey fly out of the blocks as they bid to continue their promotion charge.

The Blues boss has been frustrated by what he feels were slow starts on each of his side's past two outings at Fratton Park.

Jackett's men will aim to put that right as they take on struggling Gillingham on their own turf.

Both Wycombe and Shrewsbury left PO4 with a point in Pompey's past two home games, despite struggling in the table.

Jackett isn't ready to accept a repeat as his side aim to make it 12 league games unbeaten,

He said: '˜I think we need to start better.

'˜I do feel we build up with a good tempo and momentum at Fratton Prak.

'˜If we can start well on Saturday that will be a big thing.

'˜I always feel that going into games we grow and have done generally.

'˜But we need to start fast on Saturday and not be sitting back and resting on our laurels.

'˜We mentally need to be positive right from the start.

'˜There's one or two tactical things which can help.

'˜But, after that, it's an attitude of mind and for us.'

After successful away trips, Jackett anticipates a very different challenge against the Gills.

He added: '˜We need to realise the test ahead is different than say Coventry or Rochdale.

'˜Then, overall, bring a very positive home crowd into play as quickly as possible.

'˜Each game is a different test.

'˜We've been away to Rochdale and Coventry recently.

'˜Now Gillingham at home is a completely different type of game.

'˜We have to recognise that and get our supporters off their seats.

'˜Nobody rolls over. You have to earn every point you get.'
