Kennedy: I'm yet to peak at Pompey

The winger feels he has more to offer as the Blues bid to reach the League One play-offs.

Since arriving on loan from Cardiff in August, Kennedy has made 28 appearances for Kenny Jackett’s side, scoring three goals.

Twenty of those outings have been starts, with the Scot seen as a key player over the opening months of the season.

But only eight have followed since the beginning of November, with Kennedy finding himself in and out of the team.

His latest appearance came from the bench against Blackburn on Tuesday night, replacing Jamal Lowe on 89 minutes.

But Kennedy believes he needs another regular run of starts to be at his best.

He said: ‘I don’t feel like I’m anywhere near my sharpest.

‘There were a couple of games when I was on flames.

‘However, I was then carrying a little injury and was out of the team, I got dropped at the wrong time and was maybe getting my fitness back.

‘I think if I get a good run of games and train my hardest then I’ll be at my very sharpest because I’ve not been so far.

‘This is the most games I’ve played in a season. I’ve played 31 games, with 28 of those coming for Portsmouth.

‘I’m enjoying myself (at Pompey). I’ve been on the bench in the past few games, but that’s happened because of tactical reasons.

‘The gaffer has said to me it’s tactically, but I’m doing well and performing.

‘I’m probably not the best with my defensive work.

‘I try my best and my hardest, but it is what it is.

‘Every time I have that Portsmouth shirt I always try my best for the club.’

Kennedy is currently vying for a place on the Blues’ left flank with Lowe, following the re-emergence of Gareth Evans on the opposite side.

The 23-year-old started the games against Doncaster and MK Dons, before finding himself on the bench against Rovers during the week.

He’s disappointed at not getting the same amount of game time he did previously – but has vowed to continue to work hard to regain his starting spot.

‘Me and Jamal are different players,’ added Kennedy.

‘You know what you get with Jamal. He gives you 110 per cent every game.

‘He’s up and down the pitch, he’s got a good engine, quick and strong.

‘He gives you a lot defensively and going forward

‘I’m maybe a little bit more skilful and we’re both quick, but we both have different attributes.

‘As a winger, you’re going to have time out of the team, it doesn’t matter who you are.

‘The manager picks the team at the end of the day.

‘Obviously, I’m disappointed not to be playing. I think I deserve to be playing. But the gaffer knows the boys better than anyone else and you’ve got to appreciate what he does.

‘I’ve got to work hard and get back into the team.’
