Knight: Pompey need to go on run after unlucky Rovers loss

I thought we were very unlucky not to get a draw against a decent footballing side in Blackburn.

They moved the ball round early on and settled down better than us, with Luke McGee making an important save in the first few minutes.

We conceded a goal that came out of nothing but showed good character and the lads regrouped.

Pompey created quite a bit. Rovers keeper David Raya was a bit eccentric in some of his stuff and got a bit lucky, making some saves that were a bit unorthodox.

We grew into the game, stuck at it and had the better of the opportunities.

But Raya injuring Ryan Nyambe, which caused a stoppage of play, took the momentum out of us a little bit and we never got back on the front foot.

And then we had a bit of bad luck with the goal coming off Matt Clarke’s shin and they score against the run of play.

We’ve got another two games coming away from home quickly.

If we can get a win and a draw, or two victories, it puts the Blues right back up there.

If you look at Plymouth, they’re on a great run at the moment, although they might have hit their spurt a little bit too early.

We need to get a little run going again and it’ll put us back in the play-off mix, although we’re still in and around it.

Pompey just need to be a bit more clinical in the opposition’s box.

McGee has responded really well after being dropped against Doncaster.

That’s a great credit to the lad. He’s obviously responded in the right way and wants to prove a few people wrong.

It’s tough for a keeper but the best way to respond to any doubters is go out and play well.

He’s done it in the right and proper way and deserves a lot of credit and respect for that.

Conor Chaplin is also the same and wants to prove a few people wrong.

That’s the way any professional should act, not like one or two who won’t get out of bed when they don’t get multi-million pound moves.

Clarke signing a contract extension is great news.

He has been immense throughout the season.

With him signing a contract, it’s all stuff we can look to build on towards next season.
