Fair play to Maidenhead, they had a proper go in the first 40 minutes and gave Pompey a bit of a scare when Craig MacGillivray had to make that sharp save.

In the end, we managed to break them down. Our service in the final third wasn't brilliant early on but once we got that goal then they boys put in a thoroughly professional job.

I have been to Maidenhead before, but a lot of fans hadn't. It was nice to get to be able to mingle with a few supporters by having a burger with them and there was a good atmosphere

It would be nice to go on a little run in the Cup.

We've already won at Rochdale this season and you'd hope, apart from the first three minutes, we can replicate what we did last time.

I thought that was one of our best performances away. With no disrespect to them, you'd hope we get into the third round.

Some will be disappointed with Rochdale but our away form this season is better and it's a winnable tie '“ you can't be too upset with it. 

Once you get into the third round, it depends how you want to look at it.

Some would like a big Premier League team while some would want a side that we could beat.

As a player, you wanted a top-flight club and to play at the likes of Old Trafford and Anfield '“ anywhere except Manchester City at the moment!

In the Checkatrade Trophy, it was good to see youngsters Bradley Lethbridge and Haji Mnoga make their Fratton Park debuts.

They both did really well. Lethbridge was a bit isolated up front on his own but both them and their families should be proud.

Tottenham under-21s played out from the back. I'm not a great lover of it, personally. 

If you press together, you can cause teams problems that way. We didn't quite do that in the first half but pressed more as a unit after half-time.

Once we brought the substitutes on, the experience told.

There's no game this weekend and, when you're winning, I preferred to just crack on with it rather than have a break.

If you're struggling then a break is a good thing.

But if you're in good form then you'd rather keep it going.

However, there are a lot of games coming up in the next month or so.

In that respect, it might not be a bad thing for the boys to rest their legs for a weekend. 

I attended the funeral of Carl Edwards on Wednesday, having also visited him in the in the Rowans Hospice.

He lived in the Southsea area and was fairly well known '“ I pass on my condolences to his family and friends.
