Lampitt: I take responsibility and apologise

DAVID Lampitt, who was Pompey's chief executive when the club went into its most recent period of adminstration, apologised to the affected charities.

He said: ‘As chief executive at the time, I was very sad to learn about this situation. When a company supports good causes it is almost inevitable that some of those good causes may be owed money if things go wrong. With insufficient funding to meet payments, there are often impossible decisions to make about who to pay and when – is it better to prioritise those owed the most, those owed for the longest or good causes? There are no right or easy answers.

‘However I can say that I back my staff unswervingly in making those decisions in good faith and exercising their judgement scrupulously in a difficult situation, which I know they will have done.

‘I take responsibility for not personally ensuring these payments were made and I offer my sincere apologies to the charities concerned who I will be contacting directly.’
