Lee Bowyer blames wingers after Charlton draw sees no gain on Portsmouth and Sunderland

Wingers Tariqe Fosu and Mark Marshall were criticised by the manager.

He told South London Press and Mercury: ‘It’s tough to take.

‘We got into the final-third so many times but our balls into the box were not good enough. The two wide men, their end product wasn’t good enough.

‘The keeper made two or three very good saves but we have to do better. It’s so frustrating. We’re close but we can’t keep dropping points like that. It’s two games on the spin now.’

Bowyer was adamant his team should have got the victory.

In his view Southend were fortunate.

He added: ‘Two points dropped. We were miles better than them. If anything, them getting a man sent-off probably made it harder. First 10 to 15 minutes we were very good. They got a goal from nowhere against the run of play with a deflection.’

As it was it took Ben Reeves’ second-half equaliser to rescue a point for Charlton at home.

The Shrimpers led courtesy of Stephen Humphrys’ deflected 22nd-minute shot but were a man down five minutes later as Dru Yearwood was given his marching orders.
