Three of the team’s members were at Southbourne Village Fete to expand their squad and to drum up support for their team that despite only being in its infancy has already achieved local success.

The club has just finished their first season and has already secured promotion to the first division of the Chichester & West Sussex Sunday Football League.

Curtis Harrison, the club’s chairman as well as manager and player, said: ‘We’re just trying to get the word out and see if we can get as many people involved as we can.’

Despite the club only being formed last year Southbourne is no stranger to high achieving football teams. The Southbourne Football Team operated within local leagues throughout the 1940s and 50s and from the team photos you can see that local family names such as Soper have continued and appear in both modern and old team line-ups.

AFC Southbourne Assistant Manager, Adam Jones, said: ‘We are all local lads from the area. We are trying to bring a successful football team back to the area of Southbourne and have a team that our village is going to be proud to come and support.’
