Long trip gives Rams time to mull things over

It's starting to feel like a long season already for Petersfield Town and now tomorrow the Rams face one of their longest away days of the season.

The 210-mile round trip to Bedford Town will give players, coaching staff and club officials plenty of time to assess how things have gone so far and how they can change the club’s fortunes going forward.

After the impressive 2-2 draw at Marlow on September 17, Petersfield have lost three games in a row and appear to have lost some of the momentum they were looking to build.

However, chairman Graeme Moir feels it is down to everyone at the club to play their part in turning their fortunes around.

He said: ‘It’s been a tough start to the campaign and it has been well publicised now some of the reasons for that.

‘But the only people who can change things is us – and by that I mean me as chairman, the manager and coaching staff and the players when they cross that white line.

‘No one is going to give you anything just because you are on a downer – and that has been well proven in our scenario this season – the only people who can turn this situation around is those who are at the football club.

‘I don’t think it is a case at the moment that we are feeling sorry for ourselves.

‘There is a lot of frustration but that comes from knowing that we are capable of getting results and putting points on the board.

‘We have to look at what we are doing, assess what is happening and make the tweaks and changes necessary to turn this situation around.

‘There is still plenty of time in the season so there is no need to panic at this time.

‘But we need to work on the things that aren’t working and look to change the mood music that seems to be associated with the club at the moment.’

Bedford are currently in 12th place in the Southern league division one central table with a record of four wins, two draws and five defeats from their opening 11 matches.

Petersfield fought back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw when they travelled to Meadow Lane last season and they will need some of that fighting spirit again when they go there this weekend.

Moir added: ‘What we need right now is a day when things go for us and we come away from Bedford with a solid draw or the victory.

‘A day like that will be the spark to us getting back on track but we have to make it happen – we can’t just wait for lady luck to smile on us.’
