And Paul Cook won’t rule out seeing him in the first-team frame before the season is out.

The striker has been sidelined for more than five months through a succession of injury diagnoses.

Yet this week he has returned to training and is presently being eased into action with the youth team.

These remain early days in Main’s comeback.

Nonetheless, the sight of him back on pitches for the first time since October is encouraging.

And with eight matches remaining for the promotion-chasers, Cook believes the former Doncaster man could feature.

He said: ‘Curtis is back on the grass now, so fingers crossed.

‘These are initial steps so what we don’t want to do is just throw him in.

‘You’d think the first-team’s training intensity would be quite strong, even at this moment, and when we train we like to train properly.

‘Certainly, Curtis doing a week or so with the younger lads should be okay.

‘If he comes through that, hopefully he can join in with us before the end of the season, which could see him maybe playing a part.

‘I would think it could happen, there are eight games to go so why not?

‘Obviously, he has to come through his training schedules. If he does, then there’s no reason why he wouldn’t have a part to play.’

Main has netted five goals in 14 appearances following a summer move from Doncaster for an undisclosed fee.

He is one of only two different players to have scored a penalty this season.
