McLeod striking the right note with Thomas

Izale McLeod hailed his blossoming strike partnership with Wes Thomas and admitted: He's getting the best out of me.

McLeod got his seventh goal of the season from the penalty spot in Pompey’s 2-0 success over Crewe on Saturday.

And he was joined on the scoresheet by Thomas, after he bagged his second goal of his loan spell from Bournemouth.

The pair have immediately struck a decent understanding following Thomas’ arrival.

McLeod admitted his delight at his return so far this season – and promised there will be no let up.

He said: ‘Ever since Wes came, we’ve clicked and we’re doing well. We’re working well off each other.

‘When I get the chance I try to look for him and he does the same with me.

‘I’m pleased he’s scored another goal and is adding something to the team.

‘I’m pleased with the goals myself, too. I’m not going to rest on my laurels, though. I always want more.

‘It’s great for me individually, but the most important thing is we’re starting to assemble results and climb the table.

‘I’ve got a number in my head to score this season – but I’m keeping it to myself! I’m well on the way towards it.

‘I’m pleased, the team is doing well and we’re getting results – that’s the most important thing.’

Pompey have not lost in four league games now and have collected 10 points from 12.

McLeod believes that’s the return of a team going places.

He said: ‘We’re 12th now and are starting to make a push.

‘We’re at a big club and if we’re serious about doing something in this league that’s the sort of points ratio we need.’
