Boss Alex Bone has drawn heavily on his Clanfield connections to piece an experienced squad together for their debut MSL campaign.

And Albion showed they are taking things seriously by hammering Rowner Rowners 12-2 in their first league game at the weekend.

A lot of the Mob squad played for Bone during his time in charge of Clanfield in the Hampshire Premier League.

Among them are three men who know where the goal is - Michael Newman, Darren Ferguson and Harry Potter.

Newman, now 37, struck 25 goals in only 27 appearances for Jon Gittens’ Blackfield & Langley when the Watersiders won promotion from the second tier of the Wessex League in 2009.

Ferguson netted 19 goals in 24 games when Clanfield finished seventh in the HPL in 2016/17 - Newman adding 14 in 19 outings and Potter 12 in 16.

The following season, 2017/18, Clanfield finished eighth with Potter top scoring with 22 goals.

Both Ferguson and Potter netted four goals in the routing of Rowner, with Newman scoring once.

Midfielders Joe McIntosh and Cam Palin, who also netted, are two more ex-Clanfield players.

Peter Varran, who has played for AFC Petersfield, completed Mob’s opening half-dozen haul.

Mob have also signed Dan Hayes, who made 30 starts for Moneyfields in 2016/17 - the season they finished runners-up in the Wessex Premier but still won promotion.

Bone said: ‘We’re a group of mates mainly between 28 and 35 who just want to play football together - most have young families now.

‘As long as the squad stays together, the objective is to win the league.’

Mob’s first home game is against another of the league’s new clubs, East Lodge Youth, at Havant Academy this Saturday (1.30pm).
