Moneys fired up to flourish again in Vase

The Copnor club take on Western League visitors Bristol Manor Farm at Dover Road for a place in the last 16 of the competition (3pm).

A long trip to either Sunderland RCA or Seaford Town await the winners.

The Bristol side, who are flying at the top of their league will present a huge test for the hosts.

Manager Dave Carter is due to arrive back in the country today from his holiday in Tenerife to plot the downfall of the visitors.

His cause isn’t helped by the fact over half his team are cup-tied and ineligible to play.

Carter, however, has managed to draft in some reinforcements and will call on his team to reproduce another battling display similar to that in the last round.

Many had written Moneyfields off when they had to replay at Brimscombe & Thrupp in the last round.

The odds were stacked heavily against Carter’s team who travelled to Stroud with only 12 players.

It was the visitors, however, who came away comfortable winners after a bruising physical encounter.

Carter accepts his team will have to be at their very best to overcome Bristol Manor Farm.

‘We have had to show a lot of fighting spirit to get this far,’ said Carter.

‘At Brimscombe & Thrupp we gave it everything we had and the same will be needed again.

‘Our opponents are a very strong unit and are scoring a lot of goals.

‘Defensively, we will need to be very sound and we must match them all over the pitch.

‘We have a good back four out and goalkeeper Matt Shortt is also making a big difference to us.’

Carter has bolstered his squad with some recent arrivals not least Lewis Fennemore from Winchester City.

Fennemore was a member of the Sholing Sports side that won the Vase at Wembley two years ago.

His experience could prove invaluable to the home side although he hasn’t seen a lot of action in the last few months.

Up front Moneyfields have struggled to score goals.

So Carter has also added players to strengthen that area.

He has brought in the vastly-experienced Warren Hunt who helped Petersfield Town win the Wessex League premier division title last season.

Hunt is no stranger to Dover Road having played for the club on a number of occasions in his career.

Carter is also enlisting the help of Baffins Milton Rovers’ powerful forward Blu Boam who is eligible to play for both clubs.

With Robbie Pitman, Jake Morgan and Dan Gauntlett also available again Carter will feel his hand has been strengthened and the team will be raring to go.

‘We will go into the game as massive underdogs but will go out and give it everything we have got,’ said Carter.
