More of the same from Rams in replay

Petersfield Town's caretaker manager, Gary Lines, wants more of the same from his side in tonight's FA Trophy replay at home to Winchester City.

The Rams produced a spirited and battling display at the Denplan Stadium on Saturday to earn a 1-1 draw and the chance to have a second shot at beating the side managed by former boss Ian Saunders.

Petersfield went behind midway through the first half but got level again a few minutes later through Dan Simmonds’ excellent goal.

Winchester had the majority of the attacks during the match but they could not break down Petersfield’s resilient defending.

As the second half wore on the Rams looked like they might sneak a late winner and they looked dangerous on the break.

It means there will be another night of reunions, but for the Winchester contingent, this time it will take place at the ground where they enjoyed plenty of success during their time at Petersfield.

Former Rams Howard Neighbour, Jason Silver and Joe Briggs are all expected to play some part in the action out on the Love Lane pitch tonight, while Saunders, his assistant Jason Hampson and goalkeeper coach Jamie Cotton, will also be on familiar territory – but this time as visitors.

The prize for the winners will be a trip to Fleet Town in the next round.

Lines is confident his side can be the ones who win their way through this replay.

‘I will be looking for the same kind of performance from the players as they gave me on Saturday,’ said Lines, who is Petersfield’s director of football.

‘I could not have asked for more from the players – they gave me everything.

‘Winchester had a lot of attacks but we defended well and we will have a chance tonight if we can defend as well as that again.

‘We will get chances at the other end, so if we can take them when they come along and ensure we keep things tight at the back, we will have a chance of getting the victory.

‘Everyone at Petersfield will be well up for the game and we’re hoping for a decent crowd, so there will be a good atmosphere.

‘Let’s hope we can repay all of these people with a good result.’

Petersfield go into the game with the same squad available as Saturday, except for the addition of Ryan Woodford who has now completed his three match suspension.
