The News' Pompey writer honoured at national awards
Allen was among six writers shortlisted in the Regional Journalist category at Monday evening’s prestigious event.
Hosted by Jim Rosenthal, the national awards were presented at a gala dinner staged at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London, with sports media’s biggest names present among the 500 guests.

Hide AdMedia Wales’ Chris Wathan was named winner in the Regional Journalist section, his entry described as ‘a gripping tale of murder, the mafia and a Welsh sporting disaster’.
However, Allen was highly commended alongside Mark Douglas of the Newcastle Journal.
Daniel Taylor, chief football writer for the Guardian and the Observer, was named Sports Writer of the Year, while the BBC's Mark Chapman won the Broadcast Sports presenter category.
