Non-League round-up: Bentley is Borough's hat-trick hero

Hat-trick hero Warren Bentley fired Gosport Borough to a hard-fought 3-1 National League South win over Eastbourne Borough at the Aerial Direct Stadium.

Bentley made it five goals in his last two games after making the step up from Southern League Winchester City.

The home side fell behind on 21 minutes but Bentley drilled in an equaliser before the break.

Bentley punished another defensive mistake 10 minutes into the second half and fired in his third a minute from time.

The Hawks were given a harsh introduction to life in the Ryman League premier division as they were beaten 3-1 at Leiston.

It was the worst possible start to the season for the visitors who fell behind after just 20 minutes – Jack Ainsley the Leiston scorer.

Ten minutes later, though, the Hawks were back on level terms when midfielder Theo Lewis restored parity.

But any hopes of a victory faded after the break when Gareth Heath and Matt Blake netted in quick succession as the hosts sealed the win.

Last season’s runners-up Bognor were on the receiving end of the same result in a delayed game at Nyewood Lane.

Lowestoft Town’s team coach broke down on its way to the south coast but it did not adversely affect the visitors’ players.

They were 3-0 up and cruising until James Crane’s last-minute consolation strike.

Petersfield Town slumped to a 1-0 Southern League division one central home defeat as Aylesbury United left Love Lane with all of the points thanks to Lee Coulter’s goal.

Elsewhere, in the Wessex League premier division, former Pompey attacker Ashley Harris was on target as Moneyfields beat Bournemouth 3-1.

Fareham Town were also victorious, winning 1-0 at home to Andover Town.

AFC Portchester, though, endured a day to forget as they were thrashed 5-2 at home to Blackfield & Langley.

Luke Heard scored for Horndean as they were forced to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw with Hamworthy United.
