Justin Bennett’s extra-time winner secured a 2-1 FA Trophy replay victory for Gosport Borough in a cracking cup tie against Basingstoke Town.
Borough got off to the perfect start when Matt Paterson’s angled finish put them ahead inside three minutes as he latched on to Mike Carter’s measured pass.
But Basingstoke hit back just beyond the hour mark through Chris Flood’s header to send the game into extra-time.
Bennett, however, had the final say as he smashed home a loose ball from close range just two minutes into the first period of extra-time after good work from Lee Wort.
Borough have a home tie with Braintree in the second round on January 10.
Elsewhere, the Hawks breezed past Weymouth with a 5-0 victory at Westleigh Park.
Ben Wright scored twice, while Brian Stock, Ben Swallow and Scott Donnelly added the other as Lee Bradbury’s men booked a home time with Dover in round two.
