Jamie Brown’s Gosport Borough contract has been terminated with immediate effect – subject to an appeal.

The Borough midfielder, who led the side out at Wembley in the FA Trophy final last season, was served a termination notice by the club before Thursday night’s training session at Privett Park.

Brown found himself in hot water after posting pictures and perceived criticism of Borough’s pre-season trip to Guernsey on Twitter when the club’s players were left without hotel accommodation for the night.

But it is believed that was not the reason for his dismissal – instead it was his behaviour in a verbal confrontation with chairman Mark Hook.

Boss Alex Pike said: ‘I can confirm he was dismissed and I’m disappointed it has come to this.

‘Everyone knows I am a firm admirer of Jamie Brown the footballer and the person.

‘I can’t believe it’s got to this stage.

‘Ultimately, it was the chairman’s decision and I have to accept that.’

Brown confirmed he had received the termination notice and he will now pursue an appeal, although he declined to comment further on the matter.

Pike’s side, meanwhile, kick off the new Conference South campaign at Chelmsford today.

‘The last week has been draining,’ said Pike.

‘I’ve got a squad that deserves my time equally and 99 per cent of my time has been taken up by dealing with one player this week.

‘It will be a welcome relief to play a football match and start the season.

‘But I monitored the other players closely in training. There was no backlash. They are focused on the game.’
