Horndean and Hayling United both head into tonight’s Wessex League premier division derby determined to taste victory again (7.45pm).

They each suffered home defeats on Tuesday night – to Blackfield & Langley and Newport respectively.

For Horndean, tonight’s visit of the Humbugs to Five Heads Park will be their third game in six days.

And boss Dave Carter insists his players are up for the derby battle.

‘We are looking forward to it and want to win our final four games and get into the top 10,’ he said.

‘The lads were unlucky to lose narrowly (1-0) against top of the league on Tuesday night.

‘We were all over them in the second half – Nathan Paxton hit a post and their goalkeeper pulled off a fantastic save from Tommy Woodward.

‘If we can take that form into this game then we should do okay.’

Carter has to do without the injured Alex Shephard, though.

And Paxton will be unavailable because of suspension.

Elsewhere in the top flight, AFC Portchester are keen to continue their winning momentum as they entertain Verwood Town at Wicor Mill (7.45pm).

‘We are aiming to grab a couple more wins from the next four games to achieve a mid-table finish,’ said coach Louis Bell.

‘If we can achieve that then it will have been a good first year in the premier division.’
