Fareham were their own worst enemies as they crashed to a 3-0 loss at Alton Town in the Wessex League premier division.
Matt Parr’s men missed a golden chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot on 11 minutes.
Ashley Tattersall was brought down but Wayne Boud’s tame effort from 12 yards was saved easily by the Hamble keeper.
Luke Douglas did well to tip over a long-range effort, while Tattersall went close on 26 minutes, with his shot saved at the second attempt.
Despite their chances in the first half, though, Fareham imploded after the break.
Poor defending on the hour mark enabled Simba Mlambo to net Alton’s first from an open goal.
The same player doubled his side’s lead from the penalty spot after Sanderson had been brought down by Smith.
Boud’s miserable afternoon was summed up when he was sent off late on.
And Mlambo completed his hat-trick in stoppage-time with another penalty to make it a sorry match for Fareham.
