Gosport remain rooted in the Skrill South relegation zone after Eastleigh completed a routine 2-0 win to go top of the table.

Eastleigh dominated possession and territory in the opening period.

But Gosport only fell behind on the stroke of half-time as Yemi Odubade’s deflected drive beat Nathan Ashmore.

Borough made a bright start to the second half and Tom Dunford should have levelled.

An incisive pass from Dan Wooden released Mike Gosney who pulled the ball back, only for Dunford to slice wide.

Eastleigh took control of the game just before the hour mark as Glen Southam twisted and turned inside the box and fired home.

The visitors threatened to add another when Jai Reason’s fabulous free-kick rattled the inside of the post.

Craig McAllister then somehow contrived to miss an open goal in the closing moments after a great run by Romone Rose.

Elsewhere, Horndean fought back to beat Alresford 2-1 in the Wessex League premier division.

Tommy Woodward levelled with 15 minutes left before Nathan Paxton grabbed the winner.
