ALEX PIKE watched his Gosport side slaughter Southern League premier division high-fliers Chesham 3-0 and declared: We’re starting to show our quality.
Justin Bennett struck two classy goals and Dan Woodward, scouted by Pompey in midweek, enhanced his growing reputation with an expertly-finished strike.
Gosport boss Pike said: ‘I feel that we are starting to find our feet at this level.
‘I thought we controlled the game and picked them off at the right times with the goals.’
Chesham were third in the league going into the match at The Meadow.
But Gosport defended strongly and scored three outstanding goals.
Chesham’s Simon Thomas spurned the best chance of the first half when the hosts were awarded a controversial penalty.
He fired his kick high against the woodwork.
After the break, Gosport took charge.
Bennett opened the scoring when he slotted home a fine effort.
Woodward slammed a shot into the far corner for 2-0 and Bennett clipped in the third after racing through on goal.
Bognor recorded a 3-1 win at Wingate & Finchley in the Ryman premier.
Terry Dodd, Mu Maan and Doug Tuck scored for the Rocks.
