The Hawks are trying to sign ex-Celtic midfielder Richie Towell.

The club have agreed terms with the 21-year-old and are now awaiting international clearance.

Dublin-born Towell, who can also play at right-back, has represented Ireland at under-21 level and would be a major coup for Hawks boss Stuart Ritchie.

Towell joined Celtic in 2007 and spent part of last season on loan with Hibernian.

‘Bringing a player from the Scottish Premier League into Conference South makes it clear we are going for it,’ said Hawks vice-chairman Jim Fallon.

‘We are not messing about and are prepared to bring players of this calibre in to lift the side.

‘No-one has been more frustrated by the start we have made than our management team of Stuart Ritchie and Barry Blankley.

‘We are committed to bolster the squad where needed.’
