Mixed feelings for Hawks boss after stalemate

The Hawks slumped to a damaging 4-2 Blue Square Bet South defeat at the hands of Boreham Wood at Westleigh Park this afternoon.

A poor first half left the home side trailing 3-1 at the break, with Scott Jones on the mark for Shaun Gale’s side.

Ollie Palmer scored early in the second half to give the home side hope.

But a Boreham Wood penalty on 62 minutes ensured the points were going to the visitors, who deserved their three points.

In the Southern League division one south & west, keeper Nathan Ashmore was the unlikely goal hero as Gosport Borough snatched a last-gasp 2-2 draw at Wimborne.

Alex Pike’s side looked destined for defeat, entering the final three minutes 2-0 down.

However, their never-say-die attitude rose to the occasion again.

And after Elis Martin gave them hope with a long-range effort, Ashmore popped up in injury time to ensure the points were shared – much to the astonishment of their hosts.

In the Wessex League, Conor Bailey had an eventful afternoon as Moneyfields drew 1-1 with Alresford.

Bailey gave Moneys a first-half lead before scoring an own goal.

He then finished up playing in goal for most of the second half as regular keeper Dave Hook had to go off through injury.

Also in the Wessex League premier division, rock-bottom Hayling United suffered a 2-0 loss at Hamworthy.

Meanwhile, fellow strugglers Horndean slipped to a 4-2 defeat in their clash with Alton Town at Five Heads Park.

In the Ryman League, Bognor’s title bid took a knock after a 1-1 draw at home to Folkestone.

The visitors took a 44th-minute lead through Stuart King, before Ashley Robinson equalised for the Rocks seven minutes after the break.
