The Hawks crashed out of the FA Trophy after a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Weymouth.

With a potential home tie against Eastleigh awaiting the winners, Shaun Gale’s side failed to rise to the occasion in this third qualifying round, conceeding two second-half goals as they exited the competition.

The first game between the two sides finished goalless on Saturday.

And with extra-time looking a real possibility, with both teams continuing to fire blanks, the deadlock was finally broken on 54 minutes when Matt Groves punished the Hawks for failing to clear their lines.

A killer sucker-punch then ended the Hawks’ interest in this year’s competition when Warren Byerley slotted home on the hour mark.

In Southern League division one south & west, Gosport Borough stretchered their unbeaten run to eight with a 5-1 victory at Clevedon Town.

Justin Bennett (3), Adam Wylde and Nathan Kirby all scored for Alex Pike’s side, who trailed 1-0 after 55 minutes.

In the Wessex League premier division, Moneyfields were also 5-1 winners after they defeated Lymington at Dover Road.

Jamie Hore (2), Dan Gauntlett (2) and Conor Bailey were all on the mark for Miles Rutherford’s side.

Fareham Town were defeated 3-1 by Alton Town, while Horndean suffered a 2-1 defeat on their trip across the Solent to face Brading Town.

In the Ryam League, Bognor were 6-0 winners over Godalming Town.
