Hawks swoop for late win as Gosport win battle of the Boroughs

The Hawks recovered from an early setback to beat 10-man Boreham Wood in an incident-packed Vanarama Conference South encounter.

After falling behind in the first minute, Lee Bradbury’s visitors levelled through a Scott Donnelly penalty before half-time.


The hosts were reduced to 10 men early in the second half but Donnelly sent his second penalty against the post.

It didn’t matter, though, as JJ Hooper won the game for the Hawks in the last minute with an emphatic finish.

Gosport Borough also showed their character as they came from behind to notch a crucial 2-1 win over Farnborough and continue their push for the Vanarama Conference South play-offs.

Dan Wooden continued his impressive goalscoring form by notching a sixth in as many matches to pull the hosts level at the break following Dan Bennett’s opener.

Prolific namesake Justin Bennett completed the comeback for Alex Pike’s side.

AFC Portchester’s impressive 12-game unbeaten run was brought to a halt by three quick-fire first-half goals as mid-table Lymington beat the in-form visitors 3-1.
