‘All or nothing’ as Gosport get set for Dunstable trip

Have your say

Steve Poulton’s Hayling United came from two goals down to beat hosts GE Hamble 3-2 in the Wessex League premier division.

With a little more fortune in front of goal, the Humbugs could have inflicted an even-greater defeat.

Instead, they had to do it the hard way after Hamble had stormed ahead with goals from former Gosport Borough striker Ashley Jarvis and Luke Watts.

Crucially, though, Alex Easton pulled a goal back for the visitors just before the interval.

Much of the second half was dominated by a Hayling outfit not intent on travelling home to the College Ground with nothing to show for their efforts.

And further pressure saw Hamble’s Simon Quirk upend Jack Salter-Vaile in the area, leading to Nathan Kirby netting an equaliser from the penalty spot.

Now it was game on and Hayling held their nerve to emerge with the points as Kirby again took centre stage from the penalty spot to beat Hamble keeper Brian Gosney with the winner after Easton’s goalbound shot was handled on the line.
