Bottom-club Hayling United recorded a sensational 3-0 derby win over Horndean at Five Heads Park.

Goals from Lenny Burney (2) and Steve Black gave the Humbugs the perfect boost ahead of another derby tomorrow night against Moneyfields at Hayling College (7.45pm).

Horndean boss Dave Carter was left bemoaning missed chances and schoolboy errors from his side.

Carter said: ‘We should have been three up inside the first 10 minutes but were guilty of some bad misses.

‘At the other end, we were guilty of gifting them all three of their goals with poor mistakes.

‘If we had scored early it probably would have been a totally different game.

‘Hayling probably wanted it a bit more than we did.

‘We were possibly guilty of thinking we were going to win before we went out there.’

Humbugs striker Burney escaped his marker to head in a 25th-minute free-kick.

And when the home defence failed to clear a long ball, just five minutes later, the same player scored at the far post.

Horndean’s hopes of a fightback were dashed when keeper Grant Blackmore dropped the ball under pressure from Burney and Black knocked it home.

‘We made too many wrong decisions,’ added Carter.

Horndean’s league game at Alton tomorrow night has been postponed, due to their opponent’s FA Vase involvement.
