Have your say

Carberry improved their promotion chances with a five-star performance over Valley FC.

And the scoreline would have been more had it not been for a fine display by keeper Jamie Farrell.

Carberry were ahead from their opening attack in the second minute. Josh Robinson broke forward and, although Valley keeper Farrell beat away his angled shot, Jay Robinson coolly side-footed the loose ball into an empty net.

Another of the Robinson clan then went close to doubling Carberry’s lead. Farrell saved Ollie Robinson’s shot but this time Bryan Pointer’s follow-up was hacked off the line by defender Brad Johnson.

Valley were seeing plenty of the ball but could not find a good final pass, while Farrell was again called on to keep out another Ollie Robinson effort.

It was 2-0 on the half-hour mark, with Carberry’s speed up front telling once again. Josh Robinson showed the defence a clean pair of heels before striking a low drive past the exposed Farrell.

Valley came close to pulling a goal back before the break. Billy Essery swung in a free-kick from the right but Johnson’s glancing header cleared the far post.

Carberry’s third came just before the hour. Josh Robinson again left his marker for dead and completed a precise near-post finish.

Valley had a chance to get back in the match soon after. Chris Newman excahnged passes with Lee Biggs but scuffed his shot well wide from a good position.

Josh Robinson’s mazy run saw him beat three defenders and the keeper, only to fire over the top.

But seconds later he scored his third. Bridger crossed from the byline and the Carberry number nine couldn’t miss from six yards out.

The hat-trick hero was then substituted but Carberry continued to dominate and a fifth goal soon followed.

Bridger picked out Pointer on the left side of the box and he curled a superb effort low inside the far post.

There was still time for sub Cole Robinson to hit the crossbar and Farrell to pull off yet another excellent save to deny Pointer.
