A goal from Ryan Pennery fired Gosport Borough through in the FA Cup with a 1-0 first qualifying round win at Sittingbourne.
Borough coach Matt Tubbs was pleased with the way Borough set about the task.
He said: ‘We played some good football to be fair.
‘Importantly we kept a great shape and maintained our discipline which is what we asked for before the game.’
Pennery kept his composure to drive in his spot-kick on 53 minutes after being bundled over in the area.
Meanwhile, Bognor cruised into the next round with a resounding 5-0 win at Whitstable Town.
Goals from Jimmy Muitt (two), Bradley Lethbridge, Dan Smith and Mason Walsh completed the rout.
