Moneys desperate to rip up form book

Tomorrow’s Southern League east division’s hosts have won their past six games.

That’s in comparison to Dave Carter’s men, who are winless in their previous eight outings

Carter admits his team are going through a difficult time at present.

Poor defending and basic errors are behind the loss of form and the Moneys boss can see how that’s had a knock-on effect when it comes to his side’s confidence.

Carter knows his side need to get their mentality right if they are to return to their early-season form.

He said: ‘We have got to get back to keeping clean sheets.

‘At the moment we keep letting in stupid goals by committing real schoolboy errors.

‘Our confidence has been shaken and once that happens things don’t come naturally to the players.

‘They’re finding themselves trying that little bit harder at the moment and taking an extra touch.

‘Every team has a bad spell but ours is going on a bit longer than we would like.

‘We need to get back to how we were at the start of the season.

‘Then we were winning a lot of games 1-0 because we were tight at the back.’

One of those 1-0 wins was against Chalfont St Peter at Dover Road earlier in the campaign.

In that game Moneyfields took all three points courtesy of a Brett Poate free-kick.

Carter rates them as the best footballing side they have come across so far this season.

He accepts it is going to be a tough ask up at their place.

‘Chalfont are flying at the moment,’ said Carter.

‘They are pushing for the top and will present us with another big test.

‘We are noticing that all the teams we are meeting for the second time have invested and brought players in.

‘That is something that we are not in a position to do.

‘Despite this, we must pick things up again.

‘There are no excuses, we need to go up there and get a result.

‘We have three games in the next seven days and two wins and a draw would change the complexion of things.

‘That would see us back in contention.’

Tyler Giddings is suspended for his side and Gary Austin has gone on a month’s loan to Fareham Town. Max Smith, who has a ten-day trial with Bristol Rovers, has also gone on loan to Petersfield Town.
