Moneyfields were left frustrated as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Newport in the Wessex League premier division last night.

Steve Hutchings scored twice in the first half but the two clubs went in level at Dover Road.

And despite a second-half onslaught, Moneys could not find a killer third.

The hosts had come under pressure right from the start as Newport pushed forward looking for an early breakthrough.

But after soaking up the pressure for 15 minutes, Moneys shook the visitors by taking the lead.

Alex Miroy’s spectacular long-range effort was spilled by Newport keeper Gary Streeter and Hutchings nipped in to power the ball into an empty net.

Just sixty seconds had elapsed before the islanders struck an equaliser, though.

Poor defending allowed striker Tom McInnes to send a fine, downward header beyond keeper Dave Hook.

And before Moneys could regain their compsure, they found themselves behind.

Once again sloppy defending allowed McInnes a chance and he gave Hook no chance with his finish.

Moneyfields boss Miles Rutherford demanded more from his side.

And he got it, when Hutchings broke clear of his marker to beat Streeter at his near post to level the scoring before the interval.

On 50 minutes, Dan Sackman powered forward to test Streeter before Jake Slater fired just wide.

Suddenly everything pointed to Moneys going on to claim a victory.

Bobby Scott, who had earlier rattled the crossbar, stepped up to power a free-kick against an upright.

And late on Sackman headed goalwards only for the slightest deflection to save the visitors.
