Moneyfields were thumped 6-0 by Met Police at Dover Road.

The Ryman League visitors proved far too powerful for the Copnor club in a one-sided pre-season friendly.

Some dire defending certainly did not help Moneys’ cause.

‘We were okay and matched them for the first half-hour,’ said Moneyfields manager Miles Rutherford.

‘Then we gifted them three goals – all from silly defensive errors.

‘We gave the ball away in bad positions 18 yards out and goalkeeper Dave Hook let one through his body. That killed the game off.

‘In the second half, Met Police upped their game and were by far the better team.

‘It wasn’t a 6-0 game, though, and despite the negatives there were some positives.

‘Met Police have a big budget and will do well this season.’

Rutherford has had a frustrating time all summer as he has not been able to field his top side for friendlies.

It was the same again this weekend with Steve Hutchings, James Ford, Danny Horrell and Jay Ripner all absent.

‘It hasn’t been easy all summer but we have had to just get on with it,’ said Rutherford.
