A second-half hat-trick from Joe Noakes helped AFC Portchester crush Totton & Eling 5-1 in the Wessex League premier division last night.
The Royals were out of the gates quickly at Wicor Rec.
And it took three minutes for the hosts to put the ball in the net but Craig Hardy’s half volley was ruled out for offside.
However, AFC Portchester did have the lead on nine minutes.
Luke Sweeney’s cross found Jamie Musselwhite and his header gave Matt Fredericks no chance.
The hosts soon doubled their advantage when Joe Bye ghosted in to glance home Musselwhite’s cross after 12 minutes.
It looked like the floodgates would open as Musselwhite, Sweeney and Elliot Roberts all had chances go agonisingly close.
And as half-time approached, AFC Portchester had two claims for penalties turned down.
Rob Evans was chopped down inside the box and Roberts was left on the floor after Fredericks completely missed the ball but the referee ignored both appeals.
The Royals began the second half as they did the first – and it wasn’t long before they extended their lead.
A neat one-two on the edge of the box between Musselwhite and Joe Noakes saw the latter curl a shot in with the outside of his boot.
Totton found a way back into the game with their first shot on goal after 57 minutes.
Steve Jenkins floated a shot over the helpless Ross Casey.
The goal breathed new life into the visitors and only strong defending from Josh Warren denied them a second.
However, AFC Portchester went further ahead when Noakes’ miss-hit cross flew into the net.
A spectacular effort from the same man fizzed wide on 73 minutes but in the dying moments he had his hat-trick when Musselwhite teed him up on the edge of the box.
Last night’s games involving Horndean and Fareham were postponed.
