FAREHAM were frozen out by Lymington as they crashed to a 2-0 defeat on an icy night at Cams Alders.
Manager Matt Parr saw his side fail to produce the goods in front of goal.
Instead, it was Lymington who struck twice to take the Wessex League premier division spoils.
The match went ahead after the Cams Alders pitch passed a mid-afternoon inspection.
But Fareham soon felt the chill when Lymington took the lead.
James Fry cracked the ball home off the inside of the post.
Fareham regrouped in search of an immediate equaliser.
Matt Parr’s men quickly got on the front foot and Bryn McKie saw his strike deflected just wide.
The Reds went even closer to a leveller on 40 minutes.
Mat Jones met a Danny Thompson cross with a powerful header but a Lymington defender desperately hacked the ball off the line.
In the final attacking action before the break, Lymington’s Luke Watts cut a path through the Fareham defence and teed up Fry who wildly blazed over from six yards.
Lymington came out on the front foot at the start of the second half.
They threatened a second when Watts shot just over.
It was only their wastefulness that kept the Reds in the battle.
Sam James was the next guilty party as he spurned a glorious opportunity.
Fareham were also off target when they got a sight of goal soon after.
Thompson’s through ball set Mig Dark free but his shot was lifted high over the bar.
Fareham paid the price as Lymington beat keeper Luke Douglas – scouted by Gosport – for a second time.
James sent a left-footed drive flashing past the Cams Alders stopper into the corner of the net for 2-0.
To their credit, Fareham refused to give in but McKie was denied by Lymington keeper Stu Williamson.
His goalbound effort was clutched safely, leaving Parr to contemplate a disappointing evening.
