alex pike has challenged his Gosport Borough players to go undefeated for the rest of the season.

Borough are chasing a place in the Southern League premier division play-offs.

They aim to extend their 17-match unbeaten league run tomorrow by beating lowly Bedworth United at Privett Park (3pm).

Pike knows the hosts cannot afford to drop their guard against a team who are likely to try and make life difficult for them.

But he is looking for his players to step up to the mark and keep their play-off ambitions on track.

Pike said: ‘We know if we can remain unbeaten for the rest of the season we will achieve our play-off ambitions.

‘It has never been a problem lifting the players up for the games against the top sides.

‘Against the lower teams, though, it is all about making sure we get the mind-set right.

‘All the pressure will be on us but I am confident my players can handle it.

‘We know we possess the quality, work ethic and experience to win games like these.

‘It is when one of those components is missing you find yourself in trouble.

‘The players know there is no room for complacency.

‘The longer our unbeaten run goes, the harder it becomes but we don’t want it to end in front of our own fans.’

Borough moved to within a point of the play-off places last weekend with a 4-2 win at Banbury United.

Striker Rory Williams grabbed a hat-trick, making it four goals in four games since arriving from GE Hamble.

Pike hopes to take Hawks centre-back Sam Pearce back on loan until the end of the season, when the deal could potentially be made permanent.

If the paperwork can be completed on time, Pearce will come straight back into the Borough squad increasing the competition for places.

‘One of our strengths is the terrific competition for places,’ said Pike.

‘All the players know they cannot afford to go out and cruise through a game.

‘There are players sat on the bench all capable and itching to get their chance.’
