Petersfield Town suffered their first league defeat since October 2014 with a 2-1 reverse at Southern League central division leaders Northwood.

In a poor first-half display, the newly-promoted Rams – last season’s Wessex League premier division champions – found themselves 2-0 down within the first half-hour.

But following an impressive second-half performance, Ian Saunders’ side were unlucky not to have picked up a point.

Petersfield went behind after five minutes to Michael Murray’s fine curled free-kick.

It was a lead the home side doubled on 29 minutes when Maxwell Hollands fired home.

Sadly for the much-improved Rams, Lewis Hyde’s strike five minutes from time proved to be too little too late.
