Fareham boss Matt Parr was proud of his team despite their 2-1 home defeat to Bemerton Heath Harlequins in the Wessex League premier division last night.

‘It was probably our best performance of the season but we just can’t take our chances,’ he said.

‘We played some excellent football, though, and the players deserve a big pat on the back.’

Bemerton led at the break but Wayne Boud levelled matters from the penalty spot in the 64th minute.

Matt Burt was brought down in the area and Boud calmly slotted his spot-kick into the corner.

The Reds dominated possession but were caught out by a quick Bemerton counter-attack 10 minutes from time.

‘We have to solve our goalscoring problems sooner rather than later,’ said Parr.

Hayling United cross the Solent to take on Newport IOW in the Wessex League Cup tonight (7.45pm).

The Humbugs are hoping to bounce back from their 2-0 league defeat to Moneyfields at the weekend.
