Graham Rix reckons hard work is paying off at Wicor Rec after watching his AFC Portchester side thrash Fawley 4-1 in the Wessex League premier division.

Dan Audin, Simon Stone, Pabs N’Doye and debut-making Danny Thompson were all on target.

And for Rix, the 4-1 win was a case of practice makes perfect.

The AFC Portchester boss said: ‘The lads are clearly listening in the training sessions to what we want of them on a match day.

‘And they certainly turned it on in the second half to earn us the points.’

Former Fareham Town midfielder Thompson shone in a couple of early moves.

First he put N’Doye in with a chance but the striker could only fire into the side-netting.

And then his flighted free-kick so nearly found the lurking Louis Bell in the six-yard area.

However, a slick move by the Oilmen earned them the lead on 10 minutes.

Zack Henderson crossed to the far post where Steve Hall was on hand to head home.

The home side almost found an instant reply, only for Joe Prodoma to turn N’Doye’s header over in spectacular fashion.

The Fawley goalkeeper foiled N’Doye again before the pressure finally paid off at the end of the half.

And Thompson was once again involved as he showed his quality to pick Audin out at the far post – and his downward header flashed past Prodoma and into the back of the net.

Early in the second half, Portchester struck gold with a superb goal to take the lead – a deep cross from Pittman powerfully headed home by Stone.

N’Doye then slammed a header off the visitors’ bar and into the waiting arms of Prodoma.

But the ex-Moneyfields striker made amends soon after when Bell, Thompson and George Way combined to tee him up to power a header in from point-black range.

And Thompson capped a fine display by stepping up to blast a fourth from the penalty spot after Liam Cresswell was tripped.
