Moneyfields eased to a 2-0 triumph over United Services in the Hampshire Senior Cup last night.
Alfie Rutherford made one goal and scored the other as the visitors produced a dominant display at Burnaby Road.
Despite bossing the first half, Moneys had to wait until the 43rd minute to take the lead.
Rutherford whipped a good ball in to find Mark Cotton unmarked at the back post and he headed home powerfully.
Services had struggled to make an impact in the first period and came out after the break looking more energised.
But their best efforts were soon cancelled out.
Rutherford, the instigator of all Moneyfields’ best moments, then delivered the killer blow.
On 55 minutes, Services lost the ball in the middle of the pitch and Rutherford did the rest – beating his man and firing home powerfully from just inside the box.
The home side had a spirited final third of the match – pushing men forward at every opportunity.
And in the last few moments they twice went close as Pete Lines and then Callum Coker forced a great double save from Joe Hunt in the Moneys goal.
But it was Moneyfields’ night and they progressed into the third round of the county competition.
Elsewhere, AFC Portchester crushed Locks Heath 11-0 in the Portsmouth Senior Cup.
