AFC PORTCHESTER crushed rivals United Services 5-0 in Wessex League division one last night.
Simon Woods was the hero for Portchester with a hat-trick and further efforts from Kev Pottage and Blu Boam completed the rout.
Both sides took their time to settle before the home team began to dominate.
They created a couple of good chances as they upped the tempo and pushed Services back.
Zac McGregor met a cross to fire high over the top.
Liam Horsted then set up Boam to thump a shot across goal and wide of the far post.
Several more chances came and went for Portchester.
But they continued to threaten the Services defence.
Horsted raced through to set up McGregor who tucked the ball in at the far post, only to have his effort ruled out for offside.
From the restart, Porchester sprung the offside trap, employed by Bob Brady’s Services, to take the lead.
Woods danced clear, onto a pass from Nick Howe, to beat keeper Peter Houkes as he raced off his line.
On 40 minutes, the hosts doubled their advantage.
Horsted and Howe created an opening for Woods to nip through a gaping hole in the Services defence and fire home.
Just before the interval, a poor clearance by Houkes fell at the feet of Woods, who blew the hat-trick chance with a poor shot.
Soon after the break, it took a fine save from Houkes to deny McGregory’s drive from 25-yards.
On 62 minutes, Portchester went further ahead.
Luke Sweeney’s deep cross allowed Woods to complete his treble.
Almost before the celebrations were over, Portchester added a fourth.
Pottage rammed home a penalty after he was felled by Services defender Bob Booker.
With moments left of the contest, Boam cut through the Services defence to hammer home a fifth.
Services then had Jamie Cook red carded for dissent after a decision went against him.
That completed a miserable night for Brady’s team.
