One year's passed for every Portsmouth goal we saw

I might start just writing three-quarters of the column then getting readers (if there are any) to phone in and guess the year in order to win two tickets to the Ideal Home Exhibition, or something suitable.

Last week we turned back the clock to 2008 and my regret at not venturing to one of our UEFA Cup games over the sea.

This week I'm going back a year further to remember one of those Fratton Park days that is still being talked about now (and not just by me) and will be for years to come.

Saturday was the 11th anniversary of THAT Reading game. Everyone knows which one just from that description, but equally I could call it The 7-4 Game or The One Where Chris Kamara Earned His Money On Soccer Saturday.

The teams' feat of scoring 11 goals still stands today as a record for the Premier League. And yet it's easy to forget that at half-time, it was only 2-1.

I've watched it back so many times on Youtube yet I still can't quite remember the order of the goals. From 4-2, was it Niko's header, Davis' deflected shot and Sulley's penalty, in that order?

My favourite moments were our third and fourth goals. No3 saw Sylvain Distin charging down the left wing and Big Hermann heading in the cross, while the fourth featured Benjani completing his hat-trick then pointing at three different people of the Fratton End.

What a day, and what a season it turned into as well as the Super Blues went on to a top-half finish and to lift the FA Cup.

By the time Jeff Stelling crossed to Kammy for details of the final goal, all he could do was laugh. And 11 years after the 11 goals, some of us are still smiling just at the thought of it.
