It's regarded as one of the greatest away days in the club's history, with the travelling Fratton faithful taking over the Portuguese town's square in the build-up to the clash.

Then there was the game itself later in the evening, which was just as memorable.

The Blues took a two-goal advantage to Guimaraes after a 2-0 first-leg victory at Fratton Park.

However, the Primeira Liga outfit's 2-0 win at Estadio D. Afonso Henriques took the tie into extra-time.

But Peter Crouch proved Pompey's hero with a double to give the visitors a 4-2 aggregate success and sent Harry Redknapp's men into the first round of the European competition.

We've celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the Guimaraes trip with a picture gallery showing how events unfolded on the day.
