The 27-year-old has found his chances limited with the Premier League outfit, after being signed by Kenny Jackett for £3m during his time at the club.

After a stint on loan at Burton Albion and spell in the MLS with Colorado Rapids, Mason is looking to settle down in one place.

And the poacher is hopeful that getting back to his best and letting the goals flow can ensure he finds comfort with the Blues.

Mason said: '˜It's important for me to be happy off the pitch. For the past year I've been moving around and it's not been ideal.

'˜I'm hoping now I can settle and once I settle I can play my best stuff.

'˜The building blocks are here and it's up to me now to put my stamp on things.

'˜I want to make sure I do what I have to do to impress people and hopefully stay longer. I'm going into the last year of my contract, so I have to do as well as I can here.

'˜I don't want to look too far ahead but I want to get my head down, work as hard as I can and get some goals for the team.

'˜I want to put in some performances and, long term, I need to earn a deal.

'˜I need to play regularly. I haven't done that as much as I'd like over the last year.

'˜It's been a bit stop-start, playing a couple of games here and there. I need to get out and play and try to earn a contract and I want that to be here, first of all.'

Mason watched Saturday's win over Plymouth '“ a game which told him he can thrive in Pompey's style and he's going to enjoy playing at Fratton Park.

He added: '˜It's definitely frustrating training and not playing games over the past four or five weeks since I came back from America.

'˜My fitness has been good but I haven't played the games, so that was frustrating.

'˜Watching the game at the weekend, I can see the attacking game suits how I play.

'˜The team get the ball into the box and I'm looking forward to being a part of that. I thrive on balls in the box and balls in behind.

'˜It was crazy at the weekend and Fratton Park is one of those iconic places you want to play.

'˜I've never played a first-team game here. I played a youth cup game here years and years ago, but no-one was here.  So I'm looking forward to getting out there.'Â
