And Fulton believes his new club underlined their potential as they matched Premier League Bournemouth before falling to a 2-1 defeat.

The loan recruit from Liverpool again impressed in his second start since arriving from Anfield.

Fulton is loving life at Fratton Park following a whirlwind period.

The 19-year-old rated Saturday’s sell-out occasion the best thing he’s experienced in football.

Fulton said: ‘Obviously its not great getting beat again but it was a fantastic day.

‘It’s a dream for me coming here and this is the highlight for me so far.

‘It’s been brilliant for me coming to this club.

‘The crowd and the atmosphere, the quality on the field and the support.

‘You can see the quality in Bournemouth but, at times, we were better.

‘The football was great. It wasn’t the best of pitches but everyone played well and kept trying to do the right thing.

‘We matched them and there are a lot of positives to take.’

Attention quickly turns to important league duties for Pompey at Morecambe tomorrow.

There’s everything to play for over the final 20 games with the target closing the seven-point gap to the automatic promotion spots.

Fulton has been impressed with the quality within his new squad and is upbeat about their prospects.

He said: ‘We keep trying to play football and the level of player here is great.

‘The aim is to kick on in the league and get promoted.

‘We’ve lost but I think we’ve shown what we can do.

‘We’re out of the Cup but there is still a lot in front of us. I want to play as many games as I can.’
