Pompey boss fears being forced to snub midfield talent

Michael Appleton has revealed Akos Buzsaky is prepared to be paid '˜hardly anything' to join Pompey.

But the Blues boss fears he may have to snub the former QPR midfielder in order to strengthen his injury-hit team elsewhere.

Darel Russell pulled a hamstring in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Scunthorpe.

He now joins Luke Rodgers and Josh Thompson on the sidelines, while Gabor Gyepes’ ankle still troubles him.

Appleton would relish signing free-agent Buzsaky, who has been training with the Blues since Thursday.

But with just one place left in his 19-man squad, he may instead have to look at bolstering another position.

He said: ‘Akos wants football but what I have got to weigh up is – with all the injuries – can we afford to do it?

‘Not financially because he hasn’t got any financial gain from it, he just wants to play football until January.

‘And I think he enjoys the atmosphere and environment of the football club.

‘He would want to be paid hardly anything.

‘If we can do it, fantastic, but if we have to look to other areas that is not going to be my fault.

‘That is the fault of the club being in the position it is.

‘We could have an opportunity of today signing a Premier League player – but we might not be able to because we are in administration and can only have 20 players.

‘I might have to go and get a different player in a different position because of that.

‘I am sure there is every chance of getting him before tomorrow’s match.

‘What I am worried about is if I can’t turn around to him today and do that, what is his reaction going to be?’
