Mark Catlin has sought to clear confusion surround the letter sent out to about 100 supporters who own the tickets.

He stressed the move was only appealing to those who wanted to voluntarily hand over their tickets.

The Pompey chief said: ‘So far I have personally spoken approximately 15 ‘lifetime’ season ticket holders, with a pretty even split between some happy to relinquish now or next season, some saying they don’t come anymore and happy to give back as capacity is going to be tight and wanting other fans to enjoy the match day experience, and some explaining that they have no intention of doing anything.

‘It’s a completely voluntary exercise; everyone has different personal circumstances and as always these are being fully respected by the club.’

He added the decision was made at the end of last season to approach fans to voluntarily contribute or relinquish the tickets back to Pompey.
