Paul Cook’s below-par side had found themselves behind after 34 minutes following Ashley Hemming’s acrobatic overhead kick.

It was fully deserved from League Two’s bottom club, who were by far the better side in the opening 45 minutes.

The Blues, however, stepped up their game considerably after the break to turn the fixture on its head with a goal-laden display to run out 4-1 winners.

The fightback began Michael Doyle crashing home a first-time shot from the edge of the box following Gary Roberts’ left-flank cross on 59 minutes.

Barely nine minutes later and Kyle Bennett’s free-kick from the right was headed home by Christian Burgess.

Substitute Gareth Evans got in on the act five minutes from time when he headed in another Bennett free-kick.

And the scoreline was completed in the 88th minute when Bennett twisted and turned his way into the box to finish past Mark Cousins.

Results elsewhere dictate Pompey remain in sixth spot, still five points off the automatic promotion spots.
