Pompey debutant promises to prove his striking worth

Thomas delivered three points for his new side with the late winner in a 2-1 victory against Scunthorpe.

That made it a Blues bow to savour – less than 24 hours after completing his loan move from Bournemouth.

The striker is out to show he has what it takes to bag goals in League One after falling out of favour with the Cherries.

And he vowed there is more to come as he settles into his new surroundings.

Thomas said: ‘I’m glad we got the win and it was even better to be the man to get the winner.

‘I’ve gambled and got into a position to nod it in from two yards. It’s not bad scoring in front of the Fratton end, either!

‘It’s a fresh start coming here and proving myself again.

‘It’s gone a bit cold for me but I’m showing I’m still about and I’m still scoring goals.

‘There are good players here. I was buzzing to be able to join them.

‘I’ve had only one training session. Once the boys get to know me and my movements I think I will be getting plenty more chances here.

‘There are players with great ability, so after a few more games I think you will see a bit more of me.

‘I wanted to go out and do well for Pompey.

‘I want to show I can play at this level and what I can do. I want to try to get to the next level.

‘So I want to come here, win games and get this club into a good position.’

Thomas believes he is still a way off his full match fitness after finding himself down the striking pecking order with Bournemouth.

But he believes there is the potential for him and Izale McLeod to strike up an effective understanding.

The 25-year-old insisted he is not looking at a longer stay at Fratton Park at present – but is focused on keeping his scoring run going.

‘I felt fit at the start of the season and played here [for Bournemouth]. But for the past five or six games I haven’t been in the team,’ said Thomas

‘It does affect you. If you aren’t in the team it affects your match fitness and it deteriorates.

‘I only came in on Friday. Me and Izale had good communication with each other, so hopefully it will carry on.

‘I hope this an opportunity for me and the club. I’ve come here to play games.

‘Nothing else that is going on around the place mattered to me.

‘I’m not looking longer term at the moment.

‘I’m looking at Yeovil, another win and another goal.’
