Pompey fitness doubts over Michalik

POMPEY are sweating on the fitness of Lubomir Michalik for the visit of Crewe tomorrow.

The central defender came off with a calf problem in Tuesday night’s defeat to Wycombe.

He did not train yesterday and is also expected to be absent today.

That has left Appleton rating Michalik’s chances of playing against the Railwaymen as 50/50.

‘Lubo has a sore calf,’ admitted the Pompey manager.

‘He had a tight calf before the game against MK Dons but didn’t really inform us well enough.

‘We were a bit annoyed at him about that.

‘Once the penalty was conceded against Wycombe it was just a sensible decision to think towards tomorrow and take him off.

‘Lubo was in the treatment room yesterday morning and is also likely to be there today, so I’m hoping he will be okay.

‘It’s 50/50. We desperately would like him to be involved because if not it becomes a square-peg, round-hole scenario again with players.’

Meanwhile, Josh Thompson is back in the squad for the visit of Crewe following an ankle injury.

Darel Russell, however, is still missing with a hamstring problem.
