'˜Pompey lad' Ronan Curtis happy to stay at Portsmouth
Ronan Curtis reiterated his Fratton Park loyalty by insisting: I'm a Pompey lad
The Republic of Ireland under-21 international was last week at the centre of online transfer speculation, with reports emerging that the likes of Leicester, Leeds, Derby and Sheffield United were among 30 clubs keeping tabs on him ahead of the January transfer window.
The Blues' joint-top scorer, with six goals this season, quickly took to Twitter to dispel the rumours and emphasis his commitment to the club, following his summer arrival from League of Ireland side Derry City..
And in an interview with The i newspaper, the 22-year-old once again reaffirmed his pride in playing for Pompey.
Curtis said he was happy at the club and wanted to help take the Blues back to the Championship and even the Premier League.
Speaking about the transfer speculation, he told The i: '˜Yeah! There are massive clubs out there but I've only just got here, I've only been here four months.
'˜I'm a Pompey lad, I love this club and the backroom staff and everyone have just been so kind to me, so lovely and welcoming.
'˜I'm not ready to go nowhere yet, so all that there is just rumours really. I'm proud to be here. '˜We all want to get back to that level (the Championship), that's what I want to do anyway and what I want to achieve while I'm here.
'˜Hopefully I can help get us up the table again, get back into the Championship and, you never know, one day back into the Premier League.'
Meanwhile, Curtis has been named in a provisional 36-man Republic of Ireland squad for the forthcoming internationals against Northern Ireland (November 15) and Denmark (November 19).
